MOTS-c Overview
MOTS-c (mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is a small peptide, or microprotein, that is naturally produced by mitochondria - the energy-producing structures within our cells. Unlike most proteins that are made from DNA in the cell nucleus, MOTS-c is encoded by mitochondrial DNA and represents part of a relatively new class of compounds called mitochondrial-derived peptides.
