Ezetimibe is primarily used to lower cholesterol levels, specifically targeting low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). This is of particular importance given the reported case of immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy associated with long-term ezetimibe and statin use, highlighting the need for careful patient selection and monitoring.
Other Investigative Uses: Recent research, such as the exploration of ezetimibe in the context of identifying metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, shows its potential application beyond hyperlipidemia, although clinical relevance needs further exploration.
